cello, music, pictures No Comments »

My friend FlutistSusan came over tonight to try out an arrangement she’s been working on, which is an awesome and hilarious combination of two famous pieces of music, but we both thought it could use some tweaks.  It’s arranged for cello and flute (or violin), and she took some pictures while I made some notes, both literally and figuratively.

For the record, if I’d known I was going to have my picture taken today, I’d have dressed better and taken a shower, but oh well.  What can ya do?  Sometimes you have to just ‘let go of the outcome’ or whatever.  I’m sharing these pictures because I like them.

weird storm

Oregon, Portland No Comments »

Portland just got hit by the craziest storm.  We had 40-mile-per-hour winds, torrential rain, thunder and lightning like I’ve never heard (something like two hundred strikes in the last couple of hours), and now it seems to have passed, as if to say, “Enh. . .I’m done with you now, Portland.”

Really weird.

I was supposed to have a gig tonight, but I decided to give it a miss because of the weather, and the traffic, and the fallen trees, and all of that.  If I thought we’d have had an audience, I’d have happily made the trip out there, but the newscasters were telling everyone to stay home, and I could imagine driving an hour out to the gig, only to be playing for an empty room.  Not worth it.

We had reports of a funnel cloud over the area that my gig was supposed to take place, but luckily the golf-ball-sized hail never did materialize.  I moved my car underneath a tree in my neighborhood to keep it safe, which seems to have been an unnecessary precaution, but we do still have plenty of thunderstorms on the way tonight.  A tornado was reported just off of the Oregon coast, near Lincoln City, which is pretty mind-boggling.  That NEVER happens.

Anyway.

I guess if you want a Portland weather report, you’ll have already been reading elsewhere, but I’m okay, and the power stayed on the whole time (unlike the homes of fifty thousand other people in the Portland area), so the worst is over.

blogging, pictures No Comments »

I was reminded by a close friend today that for someone who’s unemployed and spends copious amounts of time on the internet, I sure haven’t been blogging very much lately.

Sorry for that.  I’ve had a lot on my plate lately, with a bunch of emotional (and personal) stuff happening, and that makes it hard for me to feel like writing or sharing anything.  What I will share is that I’ve been feeling a bit bummed out lately, which doesn’t usually make for very compelling reading.

There’s been some good news, though, too.  I’ve been eating better, and riding my bike a lot, and walking a lot, to get myself back in shape a bit.  Don’t get me wrong; I’m still a sexy mofo, I just want to be an even sexier mofo, that’s all.  Also not very compelling reading.  Enh, what can you do?  Every single entry can’t be a gem; at least I’m honest about it.  There’ll be plenty of gems to come.

Don’t worry.  I’m okay, I promise.  I’m just trying to feel a little better before I’ll want to write at my usual pace again.
